Washington DC

So a couple weeks ago I had the pleasure to travel to Washington DC. The trip there was a little rough and I got stuck in Chicago over night in the airport. But while I was there I got to see old friends and make some new ones. Some of my friends Dan, Sarah and Arick came down from Baltimore and we went out on the town. We went to Arlington Cemetery and saw the changing of the guard ceremony which was amazing. We saw the memorial to JFK and his family and the eternal flame. It was amazing. Then we went to dinner for Sarah's birthday and for fun at the Hard Rock in DC and of course we got some fancy glasses. The next day after my training a bunch of us from the class went on a tour and we were able to see the Washington monument, the Rosevelt Memorial, Lincoln memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the WWII, Iowa Jima and Korean War Memorials. But I have to say the most powerful and amazing Memorial was the Vietnam Memorial. There are so many names on the wall and they are listed in the order that they went missing or died by days. It was the strangest thing. When I first walked up to the wall it was noisy and packed with people, there were birds chirping. As I took a couple more steps down the path looking at the list of names growing everything around me got very quiet. It was as if I was all alone looking at all those names, there were no people, no birds, no noise, just me and the wall. Then as quickly as it happened it went away and everyone was there being noisy. At first I thought it was my imagination but the more I thought about it I realized it was just something about the wall. I went mostly because my dad asked me to go since he was a Vietnam vet. I did it for him but I am so glad that I went. DC is an amazing place with so many museums and such to see. I would love to go back and see the flight museum, and the holocaust museum that is 2 floors, and the Smithsonian. If you ever have a chance to go I recommend that you do so.
